Lake Lure Flowering Bridge

A beautiful destination where you can relax and enjoy the ever changing flowers and plants on the bridge.

The Flowering Bridge of Lake Lure North Carolina is an example of how a group of volunteers can take something old, that was destine for destruction, and turn it into something beautiful that has become a source of pride and joy in the community. In a nutshell that is the story of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. It was an old bridge, built in 1925, that had served its original purpose and was no longer able to meet the needs of the vehicle traffic crossing the river between Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.

After the state replaced it in 2011 with a modern bridge one local resident had a vision for the old bridge that would give it new purpose. On October 19th, 2013, the 155ft bridge became known as the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge.

After the state replaced it in 2011 with a modern bridge one local resident, Bill Miller, had a vision for the old bridge that would give it new purpose. On October 19th, 2013, the 155ft bridge became known as the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge.

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is located just off Highway 64 in the town of Lake Lure North Carolina. The bridge crosses over the Broad River right before it enters Lake Lure. It is very easy to spot and has spacious parking lots available on both sides of the bridge. The Flowering Bridge is about 45 minutes from Asheville North Carolina or 75 minutes from Greenville South Carolina. There are restrooms available onsite via a porta-potty.

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a beautiful, relaxing, and inviting oasis that offers so much. Whether you are just looking for a beautiful place to sit down and relax, a nice spot to walk around, or a great area for taking photographs; this is the perfect spot. The motto of the bridge says it all: “A Gateway to somewhere beautiful”. Where that somewhere is, is entirely up to you.

The bridge is a managed by, “Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge” which is a non-profit organization and is supported by donations. The grounds are maintained, quite well, by a group of volunteers. Throughout the numerous gardens there are signs that identify all of the plants present, brochures that explain more about the bridge itself, and even mobile phone tours available along the way. There are also plenty of benches and chairs where you can just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the area which goes well beyond the bridge. There are excellent views of both the Broad River and Chimney Rock available from the bridge.

The Flowering Bridge is a family friendly and kid safe destination that you will want to come back to time and time again. Especially since different flowers will likely be in bloom each time you visit.
