The Wilkes Heritage Museum in Wilkesboro North Carolina has announced this years inductees to the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame. As with previous years, all of the inductees will be honored and officially put into the Hall of Fame during a live ceremony and show on June 9th, 2018. If you like traditional mountain music and culture from the Blue Ridge region, you should really consider attending this event. It is well produced and will feature live performances from either the inductees themselves, their families, or the house band which is comprised of some amazing pickers. The music is always outstanding and the evening will end with everyone up on the stage for a final jam (which is ALWAYS good!). So, who are the inductees for this year?
The Great American Eclipse of 2017 has come and gone but what an incredible experience it was! We were fortunate enough to view it unobstructed from any clouds for the full 2 minutes 37 seconds of totality. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case for some people in some viewing areas as there were clouds rolling through that day. While there were a few stories of people who missed it, it sounded like most people didn’t have any issues and experienced the totality they expected.
With just a few months before the “Great American Eclipse” of 2017 casts its shadow across the Carolina’s, you need to have a plan of where you are going to be when the event happens. While the eclipse is going to pass over both North and South Carolina, only a small portion of the states will be in the full shadow and provide the optimal viewing of this rare phenomenon. You can view the path of this shadow on the map section of our website by clicking on the “Show Eclipse Path” button on the bottom of the map. However we thought we would specifically point out a few spots of interest that you might consider for viewing the eclipse.
Each year the Wilkes Heritage Museum of Wilkesboro, NC hosts the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame Ceremony to showcase the musical heritage of the area and recognize those who have made a significant contribution. This year commemorates the 10th annual celebration of the event which includes a dinner and induction ceremony on the evening of Saturday, June 10th, at the Stone Center for Performing Arts. It is always a magical night of good food, culture, and incredible live music from some of the best pickers in the area. We have had the pleasure of attending this ceremony for the past three years and are once again looking forward to this years event. The musical talent on display throughout the night is amazing but it’s always a treat to stay until the very end of the evening when the excitement crescendos with the grand finale; a massive jam session to close out the night. Rarely do you have the opportunity to see so many skilled pickers on the stage at once. If you are a fan of the music and culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains, then this is the event for you!
