Hanging Rock State Park Overview

A wonderful 7,000+ acre state park with a number of hiking trails and recreational activities.

Just North of Winston-Salem North Carolina in the Sauratown Mountains, is Hanging Rock State Park which  is a 7,000+ acre recreation wonderland of beautiful rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, mountains, a cave, and a 12 acre lake.  The park supports a wide variety of activities including hiking, biking, camping, swimming, fishing, boating and rock climbing.  There is also a visitors center and numerous picnic areas available for use.  It is a beautiful area where you could spend days wandering and exploring the numerous sites inside the park.

The best place to start at Hanging Rock State Park is the main visitors center which is reached via the main entrance on Hanging Rock Park Road.  This cuts right though the middle of the park and provides access to the majority of activities and sites within the park.  Getting there is easy and there is plenty of signage on the roads leading to the park.  It is only about 45 minutes from Winston-Salem North Carolina.

Hanging Rock State Park is very well maintained with excellent hiking trails and facilities to support visitors to the park.  Like many of the other state parks in North Carolina, there is a high concentration of natural attractions and beauty that are all well identified and fairly easy to reach; including some of the most eastern waterfalls in the state.  Be sure to check out the specific HD Carolina episodes about the wonderful things to see and do at Hanging Rock State Park.
